What is Noopept?
Noopept is the most used and famous nootropic substance, it is a peptide-type substance synthesized for the first time in Russia in 1996, this kind of substances are molecules made of two or more amino acids linked by a peptide bond.
Depending on how many amino acids there are, peptides are called dipeptides, tripeptides, tetrapeptides and so on. Many peptides are naturally produced by our body, while others (e.g. Noopept) are developed artificially.
Peptides are usually hard to digest by the gastrointestinal tract, and because of that, they need to be taken via intramuscular injection. Noopept, however, is a dipeptide, a peptide made by 2 amino acids, and because of this Noopept is easily taken orally.
What are Noopept Properties?
Among the many properties of Noopept, there is the ability to stimulate the expression of two neutropic factors: NGF and BDNF.
NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) promotes neurogenesis (increased neurons growth) and prevents neuronal degradation. Low NFG levels are correlated with Alzheimer’s disease and similar psychiatric disorders (e.g. Dementia, Depression, etc…).
BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) has an important role in neurogenesis, it controls the correct operation and the plasticity of synapses, and influences neurons’ lifespan.
By promoting neurogenesis, Noopept improves learning, long-term memory, and protects the brain from exposure to toxic substances, such as alcohol, tobacco, drugs, pollutants and more.
Noopept favors the creation of new neurons and improves neuroplasticity. Such things are essentials not only in theoretical learning but in practical learning too, the latter of which is related to technical skills and experience. This makes Noopept helpful not only for university students but for professionals, traders, managers and everyone who operates in sectors where a great deal of information and innovation is present too.
How to take Noopept?
Noopept is sold in 10 mg capsules to be taken up to three times a day, however, the most used dosage is two 20 mg capsules a day.
There are mainly two roads of administration for Noopept: via capsules or via powder by sublingual intake. The latter gives better control over dosage, even though a scale will be needed to measure the dose. Still, capsules are easier to take and, as such, more advised for beginners.
The positive effects gained from Noopept use are intensified by prolonged and constant use. It is advised to take Noopept for three months, followed by a one month break. This cycle can be repeated indefinitely.
What are Noopept’s side effects?
Noopept has no contraindications and little to none side effects, it’s an extremely safe supplement even at high dosages. It is near to impossible to overdose on it and there have never ever been reports of long-term side effects.
The most common side effect is a small increase in irritability combined with an initial worsening of short-term memory. These side effects tend to fade after a week of usage as they could be caused by an adaptation phase or an exceedingly high starting dose.
Some nootropics, like Noopept, have a bell-shaped response curve, therefore taking a higher dose doesn’t necessarily increase the positive effects and could potentially increase the negative ones.
However, these side effects are very mild and disappear as soon as you stop taking Noopept or lower your dosage.
Noopept is immunostimulatory and as such, it should not be taken by who suffers from autoimmune diseases.
